Caregiving Story

zulma sherman, My Mom

Age:67
Location:pompano beach, FL
Cared for by:pamela sherman
Years of Care:5

I have been a caregiver for 5 1/2 years. My mother suffered a massive stroke back in December of 2005. I helped her with occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. I would bathe her, dress her and feed her until she became strong enough to do some of these things on her own. She was bed-ridden for the first three months and I got her motivated to walk, exercise and talk. The first word she learned to say was my name. I am in the process of finishing up my bachelors degree in criminal justice at Nova Southeastern University online and have decided after graduation to get my masters in OT. She has taught me a lot in patience, companionship and how important it is to be active in her life now more than ever. My mother has taught me a lot and I would love to help others in any way I can. I have enclosed a picture of me and my mother and would like to be considered for a caregiver position knowing how important it is for someone who needs the help, companionship, and friendship.
