The Dallas area ranks among the top 20 cities for eldercare employment

The Dallas area is one of the top 20 U.S. cities for senior caregiver employment, according to the first such ranking released today by

Dallas ranked No. 9 for the most caregivers and certified nursing aides hired through and for the most seniors aging at home. Chicago was No. 1.’s first Senior Care Employment Index also provided other industry employment, wage and growth information:

– U.S. senior care agencies have grown 40 percent in the last five years due to aging Baby Boomers.

– Nearly 11,000 senior care agencies operation nationwide, including 1,000 that opened in 2012 alone. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, 106 senior home care agencies have opened since 2008.

– More than 4,000 caregivers and certified nursing assistants are hired each month across the country through

– Nearly 19,000 caregivers earn a national average of $10 an hour and $120 a day.

“Since 2008, the industry has experienced expansive growth, even in a challenged economy,” chief executive Julie Northcutt said in a statement. “The future of senior care giving is going to continue to exponentially grow as the number of seniors in America will increase by 75 percent in the next decade.”
