Caregiving Story

Ruth Baskin

I was assigned to work with a client by the name of Mrs. Ruth Baskin. She was 91 years of age and she lived at home with her son. She was such a sweetheart. I only worked with her for three days per week, but this client was the only client that I had shared such a bond with. We could talk about anything. I had a lot of respect for her because she made me feel comfortable even though I was working with her. She shared her past experiences on topics such as love and working hard to strive for excellence. She instilled positive values to me. She always gave good advice. Of course I loved her dearly--she was like a mother to me.

I remember one day I went to work and after a few seconds, I just burst into tears. I had some personal issues that were bothering me. She comforted me and told me that it was going to to be ok, just pray about it, and I felt much better. Every day I can't believe that she's gone. I know that she's in Heaven. It was her time to go because God only picks his favorites, and she was truly an Angel in disguise. Some days I feel as though she is watching down on me smiling. I love you and rest in peace.
