When I first met this older woman who ended up changing my life for the better, I didn't think much of the pleasure of working with an elderly person. This extraordinary woman knew so much and changed my life forever. She taught me things like how to become a better cook, a better parent, and how to cherish your family and friends. She ended up being like a mother to me instead of an employer. Being a caregiver is more the just a job, it's a pleasure.
At times, we take our family and friends for granted. Some days, I would come to work and she would tell me, "I love having you here. It makes my day," because she didn't have anybody at all. I don't take a lot of things for granted that I used to. Being a caregiver isn't just cleaning, cooking, and domestic things--it's being a friend, a student, and a companion.
