Caregiving Story
Not a Sr. my son (Edward)
Location: New Orleans, LA
Age: 2
Cared for by: Vermonkida McNeal
Years of Care: 9
What a joy it was to hear that I was pregnant with my first born!!! Until I started experiencing kidney trouble 4 months into my pregnancy. At 3:37am Edward Jerome Murry jr. was born weighing in @ 1 pound 15 1/2 oz. As fragile as he was I was still glad to see my little LITTLE bundle of joy. After spending the first 9mo. of his life in ICU he finally came home still only weighing 4.5lbs. He was discharged with a Trach,G-tube and a young mother who was scared out of her mind to touch him for fear of hurting him. As time went on and my son and I got closer,I learned to feed him, change his trach without crying or fringing and learning to be a MOTHER and not just a mom. He required feeding every 4 hrs and one morning after his 4am feeding as he laid in my arms as always to fall asleep I didnt realize that the kisses he had just blew meant thanks for the love, the every 4hr feedings and most of all for the unconditional care as he slept away to heaven in his Mothers care.
