Caregiving Story

Cecelia Mullen

My grandmother had numerous strokes and seizures. I helped her with her physical therapy and occupational therapy. I took her to her doctors, got her blood work done, gave her showers daily and washed her clothes, but I didn't mind doing it. When my then 8-year-old daughter and I helped her with pt, my daughter had a blast and my grandmother enjoyed her being there.

Of course it was hard. I had a family of my own, but my grandmother had fun the last years of her life. My mother had a hard time when she also needed physical therapy. I helped her with her exercises and took her to the doctors as needed. Family caring for family is special.
