My grandfather began to lose his sight when I was just entering my teens and it slowly deteriorated in the years to come, which has made it very hard for him to get around. I visit him on the weekends, along with the rest of my family, to take care of chores and errands that need to be done. Dealing with this ailment as well as the passing of my grandmother has not been easy for him, but the support and respect he gets from us gives him a lot more will to get up another day.
When someone gets the helping hand they need, it allows them to focus on what is possible in themselves which in turn makes their setbacks manageable. It also helps develop a strong bond in the process. This is something that is extremely important on my outlook on dealing with people in general, whether it's with someone close to me or not. I personally believe myself capable to exercise patience when dealing with situations that require compassion to persevere. I think of myself as an asset in an environment such as this.
