Caregiving Story

Assisted Living

I worked at a new Assisted Living unit that had just opened. It was the Memory unit for 15-20 new residents. It has a secret garden just for the memory loss residents. I worked with them for 8 months.

It was a joyful experience helping them with their new home, sitting with them, and having their meals. I love trying to put smiles on their faces, assisting them into the secret garden, and walking around looking and smelling the beautiful flowers. They would tell such funny and interesting stories. I loved being with them.

We all went on scenic bus rides. They enjoyed this so much! I loved to watch their faces when we'd go on our lovely 2 hour bus rides, going to exercise class with them, enjoying the sing-a-longs, and playing cards and bingo.

I'm no longer there, but it was a chapter in my life that brought out all the goodness in me, just by helping the seniors. Just being there for them was a truly rewarding experience.

These people will be in my heart for the rest of my life.
