Caregiving Story

Lorraine Vining

I have had the privilege to care for my father, mother, and niece. Both of my parents are currently deceased, but I cared for them until their deaths. My niece just left my home about 1 year ago. She has MS. I was the primary caregiver for her for six months. I toileted, helped her transfer from the wheel chair to the bed and vice verse, prepared meals and gave her shots. I have been caring for people all my life and I know what it means to have someone that you trust to relieve you for a few hours. I am an honest and trustworthy person who understands the stress associated with caring for someone who is ill and has the compassion to understand what it must feel like when a person begins to lose their independence.
