Caregiving Story

Francisco Madera

There was one elderly man who touched my life forever.
Even though he passed away, I still have vivid memories of him which keep him alive in my mind. He was in his seventies and paralyzed from one side after suffering a stroke. I remember him as a very spiritual man, for he even cried after reading bible scriptures where the Jehovah God promises a life in the future where there will be no old age or sicknesses. (Isaiah 33:24 "And no resident will say: “I am sick.” And also in Job 33:25 "Let his flesh become fresher than in youth; Let him return to the days of his youthful vigor.")

He also taught me to appreciate life and to not take for granted the advantages that I have. He noticed how unsure I became at certain times while caring for him, especially when it came time for him to go to bed or to go to the bathroom. He would walk mostly from one side, using his cane and I had to be his other leg, while holding him upright. It was one of the most challenging things I've ever had to do as a caregiver. He knew I was afraid of dropping him, but he had more faith in me then I had in myself and he had faith that Jehovah god would help me support him and give him strength.

He always said with great force the words of Joshua 1:8 "Be courageous and strong. Do not suffer shock or be terrified, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go."

Francisco suffered another stroke as he wife dressed him to commemorate Jesus Christ's death on Monday evening, April 2,2007. He passed away later that night. " (
