When my mother began to show extreme signs of dementia she could no longer take care of my step-father who had metastasized colon cancer. I moved in to care for both of them. I lived with them and took care of their daily needs. Just 5 months later, my Mother had a massive stroke and was hospitalized. I spent a very difficult month trying to get to the hospital to see her, while also caring for her husband at home, who by then needed assistance with transfers from the bed to the chair. The two of them died within 9 days of each other. When it was finished, I realized what a rewarding job it was. I decided to get certified and spend the rest of my life enabling seniors to spend their last days at home.
