Caregiving Story

My Sibling

I'm the youngest of ten--my mother raised all of us on her own. I have worked with seniors since I was 8 years old--starting with raking their yards. After years of labor and friendship, I took care of them until they either passed away or were put into nursing homes.

I am going to be 46 years old, but some things never change about people and some things do.

I spent 10 months as my older brother's caregiver. That was the hardest of all. He passed away of AIDS on July 28, 1997.

I have compassion, common sense, empathy, and the desire to help people who can't or don't want to take care of themselves. I'm a people person. I have been looking for a change of career lately. Caregiving has crossed my mind many times. I'm sure that caregiving is a part of my reason for being.
