JOB TITLE: Personal Care Assistant/Attendant
JOB SUMMARY: The Personal Care Assistant provides hourly support services in the home. Reports to the Supervisor and/or Administrator.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or general equivalency degree (GED) preferred
- Ability to read, write, and carryout directions
- Maturity and ability to deal effectively with demands of the job
- Comprehension of basics of personal care, housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation
- 2 year applicable work experience preferred
- Must be able to hear and speak in a manner understood by most persons
- Must be able to drive (when applicable for client care/tasks to be performed)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Client Care
1. Follows the service plan, which may include:
- Helping maintain good personal hygiene
- Providing personal assistance with bathing, dressing and or continence care
- Assisting to maintain a healthful, safe environment
- Performing routine housekeeping tasks
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals
- Shopping for groceries and necessities
- Assisting with ambulation
- Assisting with mobility/range of motion exercises
- Promoting mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest
- Giving simple emotional and psychological support to client and family
2. Reports any change in the client’s mental or physical condition or in
home situation
3. Follows emergency procedures in the event of incident, accident, injury,
or significant change in client condition
4. Records hours of service for each client
B. Other
1. Interacts effectively with clients, their families, physicians, and coworkers
2. Participates in QAPI
3. Participates in staff development activities
4. Attends in-services and conferences as appropriate
5. Performs other duties as assigned
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintains client confidentiality
- Follows licensing rules and regulations
- Follows Agency policies and procedures
- Has reliable vehicle, current valid driver’s license, current auto insurance
