Caregiving Story

Sandy Blessing and John Lonick

I have worked for a couple with cerebral palsy for almost 2 years. They are in electric wheelchairs and are the most lovable people you could ever hope to work with/for. I am responsible for their medications, cooking, cleaning, and scheduling and taking them to their doctor appointments. I shower, toilet, and dress them, and give their shots. I do their laundry and any and all other daily chores that need to be done. They are like family to me. I enjoy going to work everyday. I really enjoy working with the elderly as they have so many fantastic life experiences they share with me on a daily basis and their outlook on life makes me a whole lot more tolerant of everyday problems people with no disabilities have. It definitely makes me humble. I hope when I move and find a new job someday that I find people as wonderful as them to share my time with. Thank you so much.
