Caregiving Story

Robin Smith

I was a caregiver for my husband for 2 years prior to his passing in 2007. He had several hospitalizations during that time and I was able to stay with him in his room while he was hospitalized (except for intensive care). I provided all his in-home care which included dispensing his medications, monitoring his blood sugar, blood pressure, giving him insulin shots, and dispensing more than 12 types of medications daily. My husband could take no nourishment except through tube-feeding, which I provided to him. He had limited vision and very little ability to hear. Although he was ambulatory most of the time, at other times he had very limited mobility. I arranged our home to accommodate his needs. It just seems that he was too young to die. He was only 68 hears old.

I was so fortunate to be his caregiver. It enabled me to be with him all the time and to help satisfy his needs. I want to be able to provide the same service to others who need the help I can provide.

I am in very good health, on no medications and am very active and energetic. I am basically a very caring individual and want to be of help to others as well as subsidize my income.
