My Grandmother had dementia and it got really bad. She could not feed herself or take care of herself. I moved her in with me and I bathed her, took her shopping and helped her do all the things she could not do. It was such a great feeling.
I also have assisted taking care of my nephew who has Muscular Dystrophy. He can no longer use his arms or legs. I have bathed him and helped transfer him from his bed to his wheelchair. There is no way to explain the feeling I get from doing these things. My nephew is in a facility called George Mark Children's house in California for end-of-life care. I go there and when I am there I help with all the other children as well. There truly are no words that describe the feeling you get knowing you are not only helping the patient but also the family.
