I want to take this time to say I have been very blessed to be a caregiver--I really think it is a rewarding job. My mother passed away in 2000 of cancer and I saw how wonderful the caregiver was that took care of my her. My mother looked so forward to her caregiver coming, and she felt comfortable telling her things that she would not tell us.
I had the opportunity this last fall to take care of a hospice patient. I loved him dearly and was there for him for all his needs. When it was getting to the end, I had the priest come and give him last rights. When the priest left, I walked him out to his car and thanked him for coming. The day of the funeral, at the church, I was never so recognized for the wonderful care that I did and the priest said he never felt so welcomed into someone's home. It made me very proud of myself to know that I truly made someone happy.
