I took care of Maurice for 1 year. He was a very loving man.
Maurice had a fall one morning when I was not on duty at work. When I returned the next day, I was informed that Maurice had a fall. Immediately, I went to the hospital to see what was wrong! I was very close to his wife Dorothy.
When Maurice returned back to Bey Lea Village, he was in therapy. But the funny thing about that, he would not walk for the therapy aides. Maurice was also very sleepy all the time. I was determined that Maurice would walk again and also use the bathroom on his own. I worked hard with him everyday, until he started walking on his own. Maurice also had Alzheimer's and did not remember who Dorothy was. I worked with him even harder.
One day his wife Dorothy came to the nursing home. This particular morning, I told Maurice to stand and walk into his wife's arms. He did, taking his time and all. But he did! I said to Maurice, "Who is this beautiful lady in front of your eyes?" He said, "It's my wife Dorothy!" Dorothy and I burst into tears. They were a wonderful couple. I left New Jersey in 2001. I left something very special to me. I never saw Maurice again.
